Political context
Short on the current count does not mean mathematically eliminated. Uncounted party votes, special votes, threshold crossings and overhang can change the whole seat allocation. We have no verified remaining-vote bounds, so do not declare that a route is impossible. A minority government can also govern with confidence-and-supply support; a strict seat majority is the comparison used here, not the only constitutional route.

We can test before election night. These checks validate the current XML results feed, candidate reference tables and structured-data access policy. None guarantees the next response will work.

How media coverage gets the count
The Commission’s 2026 media kit identifies an XML media feed and asks media to contact its team for updates about feed testing for graphics production. This site now reads that structured XML feed over HTTPS. The current 2026 reference files and zero-count results have been validated. Released positive vote counts still need to be verified when voting closes.
We use the structured feed linked in the Commission’s media kit. No media registration, rehearsal access or endorsement is claimed. No automated public website scraping is used.
Waiting: the feed has no released election-night count yet. Connected: a dated 2026 XML response was received and passed validation. Failed or stale: a check failed; earlier figures are labelled. “Checked” means fetch time, not the time the Commission last changed a result. A party-count connection does not imply all electorates have arrived. The XML final flag is not an official declaration. This adapter keeps XML figures preliminary; official-result promotion is not currently verified.
The house rules

Put your name down
Enter your name or a nickname, predict party percentages totalling 100%, and optionally call any electorate. Lock in to enter the same shared table and reveal other players.
Lock first, then reveal
Save private drafts until you are ready. Locking is final and cannot be undone. Your name, party-vote percentages and optional electorate calls then become visible to other locked players. The server refuses to reveal anyone’s predictions to an unlocked participant. Only locked entries appear in the shared tables.
The party-vote score
Your entire overall score is party-vote closeness: 100 minus half your total absolute percentage-point error, with a minimum of zero. Total error of 12 points gives 94% closeness. Before results arrive, the locked-in page is simply a table of selections, without ranks. The running leaderboard starts when valid party results arrive.
A separate seat game
All 71 electorate calls are optional. The separate table shows the number called, currently correct calls and hit rate. Unreported seats and ties earn no provisional point. Our watchlist is for browsing only, not a special scoring set.
Before midnight Friday
Submit and lock in by 11:59 pm NZDT Friday 6 November. The site enters quiet hours at midnight and reopens after 7 pm Saturday. Private drafts left unlocked at the on-time deadline may still be locked after 7 pm Saturday as Late entries. Late entries use the same score formula and appear in the ladder with a visible Late badge. Special votes can change the results. Equal party-vote scores share rank.
The data
The site checks the Commission’s XML party and electorate results every 30 seconds while open, and uses its published seat allocations. It does not infer turnout or percentage of votes counted from voting-place progress. The current 2026 zero-count XML files are verified; released positive-count verification is pending. Polling and campaign-position notes are dated snapshots. Use Connection check for evidence rather than assuming a demo is a live-feed test.
This free, independent game asks you to forecast the result. Do not tell us how you voted or intend to vote. There are no entry fees, wagers, prizes, political advertisements or endorsements.
What we store and who sees it
Use a made-up nickname. The site stores your nickname, optional username, private draft or locked predictions, room memberships and sign-in tokens. Passwords are salted and hashed; plaintext passwords are not stored. Your nickname and lock-in status are visible to people in your rooms. Locked predictions are visible to other locked players in those rooms. Room names appear in the public room directory, so use a neutral room name without personal details. Anyone with a room code can join: keep codes and QR invitations private.
Cloudflare hosts the site and shared database and may process information outside New Zealand. Its infrastructure may process technical request/security information. The app uses a hashed IP identifier for login rate limits. No advertising or analytics tracking is added by this app. Google Fonts may receive your network information when fonts load. Your browser stores sign-in access, a draft copy, selected room and starred electorates locally. Use a unique password and sign out on shared devices. Losing a guest browser identity can lose access; there is no email password reset.
Data is used to operate this friends’ competition. Download your picks with the button on Your picks. For access, correction or removal requests, contact Luke, the site organiser, through the friend who invited you. Locked competition predictions cannot be edited through the game; a privacy correction/removal request is a separate matter. Records remain until the organiser removes them; they are not automatically deleted. Do not enter sensitive personal information.

Source figures are reproduced without alteration; scores, presentation and coalition comparisons are our own calculations. This site is not the official results website and is not endorsed by the Commission or any party.
Faded colours mean preliminary count/lead. Special votes, recounts and later checks may change these figures. No mathematically certain winner or government is declared. Check the source update and fetch times in Connection check. A successful connection is not a guarantee that the next update will succeed.
The game is paused from midnight to 7 pm NZDT Saturday 7 November. Late predictions reopen after 7 pm; locked picks cannot be changed. Do not advertise, repost or promote election-related material from this site during voting hours. Set up and invite your friends before election day. This safeguard is a conservative interpretation of the Commission’s guidance, not legal certification.
